MuCEM, Marseille

This is the new MuCEM museum in Marseille, France. The city is 'European Capital of Culture' for 2013 and this hugely expensive (190M euros) building is one of one of the many great city enhancement projects that have been completed in and around the old port.

This photo shows part of the external ramped walkway that winds its way from ground level to the roof. Although the quality of architectural detailing and finish isn't quite what it should be I really loved the dappled light and shade caused by the strong mediterranean light shining through the building's facade of open lattice fibre-reinforced concrete.

The architect was Rudy Ricciotti with Roland Carta.
